Cookie Policy
Following the entry into force of the relevant amendment to the “Law on Information Society Services” (LSSICE), as set out in Royal Decree 13/2012, it is mandatory to obtain the user’s express consent on all websites that use non-essential cookies before the user browses them.
WHAT ARE COOKIES?
Cookies and other similar technologies, such as local shared objects, Flash cookies and web beacons, are tools used by web servers to store and retrieve information about their visitors, as well as to ensure the website functions correctly.
The use of these devices enables the web server to remember certain details about the user, such as their preferences for viewing the server’s web pages, their username and password, the products they are most interested in, etc.
COOKIES AFFECTED BY THE REGULATIONS AND COOKIES EXEMPT FROM THEM
According to the EU directive, the cookies that require the user’s informed consent are analytics cookies and advertising and affiliate cookies, with the exception of technical cookies and those necessary for the functioning of the website or the provision of services expressly requested by the user.
WHAT TYPES OF COOKIES ARE THERE?
ACCORDING TO THE PURPOSE
- Technical and functional cookies: these are cookies that enable the user to navigate a website, platform or application and to use the various options or services available on it.
- Analytical cookies: these are cookies that enable the data controller to monitor and analyse the behaviour of users of the websites to which they are linked. The information collected through this type of cookie is used to measure the activity on websites, applications or platforms and to create browsing profiles of users of those sites, applications and platforms, with the aim of making improvements based on the analysis of how users utilise the service.
- Advertising cookies: these are cookies that enable the most effective possible management of any advertising space that the publisher may have included on a website, app or platform from which the requested service is provided, based on criteria such as the content published or the frequency with which the adverts are displayed.
- Behavioural advertising cookies: these collect information about the user’s personal preferences and choices (retargeting) to enable the most effective possible management of any advertising space that the publisher may have included on a website, app or platform through which the requested service is provided.
- Social media cookies: these are set by social media platforms on the Services to allow you to share content with your friends and networks. Social media platforms are able to track your online activity outside the Services. This may affect the content and messages you see on other services you visit.
- Affiliate cookies: these enable the tracking of visits originating from other websites with which the website has an affiliate agreement (affiliate companies).
- Security cookies: these store encrypted information to prevent the data stored in them from being vulnerable to malicious attacks by third parties.
ACCORDING TO THE OWNERSHIP
- First-party cookies: these are cookies sent to the user’s device from a server or domain managed by the publisher itself, from which the service requested by the user is provided.
- Third-party cookies: these are cookies sent to the user’s device from a computer or domain that is not managed by the publisher, but by another entity that processes the data obtained through the cookies.
ACCORDING TO THE RETENTION PERIOD
- Session cookies: these are a type of cookie designed to collect and store data whilst the user is accessing a website.
- Persistent cookies: these are a type of cookie in which the data remains stored on the device and can be accessed and processed for a period defined by the party responsible for the cookie, which may range from a few minutes to several years.
HOW TO MANAGE COOKIES IN YOUR BROWSER
- Deleting cookies from your device: Cookies already stored on a device can be deleted by clearing your browser history, which removes cookies from all websites you have visited. However, you may also lose some of the information stored (for example, login details or website preferences).
- Managing site-specific cookies: To have more precise control over cookies specific to each site, users can adjust their privacy and cookie settings in their browser.
- Blocking cookies: Although most modern browsers can be configured to prevent cookies from being stored on devices, this may mean that certain preferences have to be set manually each time you visit a site or page. Furthermore, some services and features may not work properly (for example, profile-based logins).
